Throwback Thursday – week 47

This year Finland is celebrating 100 years of independence. To honor the anniversary we publish a series of photos from the Port of Turku archives themed Throwback Thursday. Since the 1960s cargoes have increasingly been prepackaged in unit loads, and the work of stevedoring has changed profoundly. The use of forklift trucks and cranes has also meant a demand for higher skills. The traditional work gangs have disappeared, and the number of men on the payroll has fallen very drastically.
