Traffic lanes to be temporarily narrowed at the intersection of Tuontikatu and Tuontiväylä
A temporary detour is being constructed at the intersection of Tuontikatu and Tuontiväylä to accommodate traffic during the construction works on Tuontikatu. The work will temporarily affect traffic in the area, with traffic lanes being narrowed from Tuesday, 22 September.
The narrowing of the traffic lanes will begin at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, 22 September. The temporary detour will be opened to traffic around the turn of September and October, at which point the carriageways will also be restored to nearly their previous width.
Those travelling in the area are asked to follow the temporary traffic signs and adjust their speed to the conditions in the construction area.
Construction work on Pansiontie, Tuontikatu, Tuontiväylä and Vientiväylä will continue in phases until the end of 2027. Traffic arrangements will be updated as the work progresses, and information on upcoming changes will be provided separately before they are introduced.
The street works are part of a broader project to redevelop the Port of Turku and the surroundings of Turku Castle between 2025 and 2028. The aim is to improve traffic flow and safety while constructing a new street network, pedestrian and cycling routes, and pleasant public spaces. At the same time, the Linnakaupunki area will be developed into a more integral part of central Turku, creating conditions for increasing passenger and freight traffic volumes in the port.
