The Port of Turku has been shortlisted for the international Ferry Port of the Year award. The award will be presented in October at the European Ferry Shipping Summit 2026 in Athens, an event that brings together key stakeholders from across the European ferry, RoPax and port industries.

Minna Pirkkanen, CEO of the Port of Turku, will attend the event on 8-9 October 2026, where the award winners will be announced. The summit also provides an opportunity to meet industry professionals from across Europe and discuss the future of passenger and freight transport.

The European Ferry Shipping Summit is an international industry conference dedicated to advancing the development of ferry and port operations, fostering collaboration and sharing best practices. The programme covers topics such as passenger and freight transport trends, the role of ports within the wider transport system, and future solutions for the industry.

Previous recipients of the Ferry Port of the Year award include the ports of Kiel, Piraeus and Rostock. The award recognises ports that have demonstrated a clear commitment to development and strengthened their position as important hubs for passenger and ferry traffic.

The Port of Turku’s nomination comes at a significant stage in the port’s development, as the Ferry Terminal Turku project continues to reshape the passenger port environment. The new joint passenger terminal for Tallink Silja and Viking Line will create a more seamless travel experience, improve passenger flows and strengthen Turku’s position as a key hub for passenger and ferry traffic in the Baltic Sea region.

The new terminal and its related traffic arrangements are designed to make travelling easier, safer and more enjoyable. At the same time, the project will enhance the overall functionality of the port area and create opportunities for sustainable growth in passenger traffic well into the future.
