News in the Ferry Terminal Turku project – September 2026
Fregatti terminal moving rapidly towards completion
The construction site of Fregatti, the new joint terminal of Ferry Terminal Turku, is already beginning to reflect the look and feel of the future terminal. Construction work is progressing according to plan both inside and outside the building.
On the exterior, work is under way on the terminal surroundings, façade structures and the finishing of balconies. Inside the building, suspended ceiling installations are progressing, interior wall claddings are being prepared, and railings and doors are being installed. Flooring works are also advancing, building services installations are progressing, and the premises are being furnished in phases.
Fregatti is the centrepiece of the Ferry Terminal Turku project and one of the most significant port development projects in the history of Turku. The joint terminal will bring together the passenger services of Tallink Silja and Viking Line under one roof, making travel smoother, safer and more comfortable. At the same time, the project will further strengthen Turku’s position as a key maritime hub and a smooth gateway to the west.
Fregatti will be commissioned in March 2027, when Tallink Silja begins operating from the new terminal. The terminal will then welcome passengers to a modern, functional and experience-driven travel centre in the heart of the Port of Turku. Viking Line will begin operating from the terminal in 2028, when berth S2, designed for its vessels, is completed.
Passenger structures at berth S1 progressing as planned
Construction of the new S1 berth of the Ferry Terminal Turku project reached an important milestone this summer when the berth itself was completed on 15 June. Since then, the focus has shifted to the installation of passenger facilities, bringing the future passenger journey one step closer to completion.
Passenger walkways have already been installed, and all stair towers are now in place. Interior works within the walkways currently include suspended ceiling installations and electrical works. The next phase will see the installation of overhead connecting walkways across the terminal area during weeks 38–39, followed by the installation of passenger boarding bridges at the end of September.
The S1 berth is a key part of the Ferry Terminal Turku project and the future Fregatti joint terminal. The new passenger solutions will ensure smooth movement between the terminal and vessels while improving travel comfort in all weather conditions. At the same time, they support the Port’s goal of providing an even more efficient and high-quality passenger experience.
Construction of terminal field areas progressing in stages
Construction of the field areas within the Ferry Terminal Turku project is progressing according to plan. The first phase of the field works was completed in June, after which the project moved on to the next stage of construction.
The second phase, currently under way, will continue until the end of the year. Structures and arrangements supporting the functionality of the future terminal complex are being built across the area to ensure that both passenger and vehicle traffic can be handled as smoothly and safely as possible.
The next visible phase of the project will be the installation of new check-in booths, scheduled for September. Once completed, the field area, together with the Fregatti joint terminal and the S1 berth, will form a seamless operational entity that makes arrivals to and departures from the port smoother while enhancing the overall travel experience for all users.
