Turku’s cruise summer combines familiar Favorites with Premium first-time visits

NEWS - Cruise-season-2026

Rising gracefully from a maze of islands and skerries, Turku has become one of the Baltic Sea’s most appealing cruise destinations. Smooth port operations, from efficient disembarkation to clear passenger guidance, create ideal conditions for an unforgettable city visit. From the modern quay and terminal area, a short and straightforward route leads directly into the city centre, framed by the scenic Aura River, leafy parks and vibrant cultural quarters.

Turku Cathedral, the city’s museums and the medieval Turku Castle reflect a long and layered history. At the same time, the city’s strong culinary scene and the calm rhythm of a university town are felt in small yet lively everyday details, making the heart of Turku welcoming and easy to explore even during a short port call.

During the coming summer, Turku will welcome a total of five international cruise ships, with two making their very first visit to the city. The cruise season begins relatively late, when Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ Europa calls at Turku on 1 July. The same vessel will also mark the final cruise visit of the summer, returning on 29 August.

Making their maiden calls to Turku are Azamara Cruises’ Azamara Journey on 17 July and The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection’s Evrima on 24 July.

Azamara Journey is a premium-class cruise ship built in 2000, measuring approximately 181 metres in length. The vessel accommodates just under 700 passengers, served by a crew of around 400. Designed with an adult-oriented audience in mind, Azamara Journey focuses on deeper destination experiences through extended port stays and visits to smaller, centrally located harbours. Compared to large mainstream cruise ships, the atmosphere on board is intimate and the service highly personal.

Evrima is The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection’s luxury cruise yacht, launched in 2022. At around 190 metres long, the vessel carries just under 300 guests and is attended by a crew of approximately 250. Evrima’s character is distinctly ultra-luxurious, closer in spirit to a private yacht than a traditional cruise ship, with a strong emphasis on privacy, exceptional service and carefully curated travel experiences.

The Port of Turku works closely with Visit Turku Archipelago to ensure that cruise operations and guest experiences run smoothly. While the port is responsible for vessels’ technical requirements and safety, Visit Turku Archipelago provides passengers with guidance and curated experiences ashore.

Among the most popular sights are Turku Castle and Turku Cathedral, outstanding representatives of Finland’s medieval heritage and key highlights on many guided tours. Another favourite is the Aboa Vetus Ars Nova museum, which uniquely combines archaeological excavations of the medieval city with contemporary art, appealing especially to culturally minded cruise guests.

Beyond traditional cultural attractions, Visit Turku Archipelago highlights the Aura River waterfront, often described as the city’s “living room.” Riverside cafés, historic museum ships and dining spots offer an easy and atmospheric way to experience Turku in a limited amount of time, making the most of every hour ashore.
