Section of Tuontikatu to be temporarily closed 28.4.2026
Map: City of Turku
The street reconstruction works at the Port of Turku are expanding to the northern part of the contract area, where new access routes to the port’s yard area will be built in phases. Tuontikatu will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic underneath the Pahaniemi Bridge between Vientiväylä and Tuontiväylä. The closure will be in effect from 28 April to 23 August 2026.
The closure will particularly affect traffic heading towards Ruissalo and the port area. Traffic towards Ruissalo and the West Harbour will be diverted via Tuontiväylä, while traffic from Vientiväylä will have a connection to Vuoksenniskankatu. Buses and taxis will also be rerouted via temporary diversion routes. The combined pedestrian and cycle path will continue to run alongside the construction site under the Pahaniemi Bridge, as before.
In connection with the closure, a temporary roundabout will be constructed on Pansiontie at the junctions with Vientiväylä and Tuontiväylä. Prior to the roundabout, traffic will be reduced to a single lane.
Construction works on Pansiontie, Tuontikatu, Tuontiväylä and Vientiväylä will continue in phases until the end of 2027. As the construction progresses, traffic arrangements will be updated, and information on upcoming changes will be communicated separately before they are implemented.
The works are part of a City of Turku project aimed at developing the surroundings of the renewed passenger harbour and the port’s street network. Traffic arrangements in the port area will be renewed in phases between 2026 and 2028 to accommodate increasing passenger and freight traffic volumes. The objective of the project is to improve the flow and safety of port traffic and to support the development of the Linnakaupunki area as an integral part of Turku city centre.
