Skanska commissioned to build passenger gangways and bridges for pier S1
The Port of Turku and Skanska have signed a contract for the building of the passenger gangway between the new Pier S1 and the new joint terminal as well as the adjoining 3 passenger bridges. The contract was signed in July 2025.
The contract covers the design, construction and building service technology work as well as hydraulic work related to the project. The contract for the project is a turnkey contract in which the contractor has full responsibility. Skanska Talonrakennus Oy will serve as the main contractor and implementer for this project.
The work covered by the contract will be planned, scheduled and carried out in such a way as to ensure that the traffic to ships operating in the port will not be disrupted. The preliminary duration of the construction is approximately 18.5 months, with the goal that the installation work will begin on 1 May 2026 and the project will be completed on schedule by 21 December 2026.
“As the passenger terminal has now reached its structural phase, we are very pleased to be involved in the development of the passenger port also through the construction of the gangways and boarding bridges. The project now agreed is closely linked to the terminal both physically and in terms of schedule, and it benefits from the proven practices we have developed together with the client,” says Vesa Hintukainen, Business Unit Director at Skanska.
“Skanska’s role in the construction of both the joint terminal and now also the passenger gangways and bridges for pier S1 assures the overall progress of the project. This collaboration facilitates a seamless implementation in which the development of passenger services and the functionality of port traffic go hand-in-hand”, states Erik Söderholm, Managing Director of the Port of Turku.
