The oil harbour in Pansio was reformed in 1996 to meet the most demanding technical standards. The train ferry harbour was opened in summer 1998, and now train ferries and ro-ro vessels sail daily between Turku and Travemünde.

The Pansio harbour mainly focuses on these operations in order to serve the train ferry, lorry and trailer traffic as efficiently as possible. Both road and rail networks lead from the Pansio harbour to elsewhere in Finland and to the east.
