A natural part of multimodal transport chains

The flows of goods in Finland's foreign trade are mainly based on multimodal transport chains i.e. combination of sea and land transports. Thanks to its good road and rail connections the Port of Turku is a natural link between different modes of transport. As for cargo transported by rail, Turku is also the only alternative, because Finland?s only train ferry harbour is located in Turku.

The Port of Turku prepares for the continuous growth of combined transports by investing in the development of services that promote the integration of sea and land transports. Co-operation with different operators allows for quick turnaround of cargo and the building and utilisation of efficient distribution systems that support it. Functioning connections with other traffic networks also offer an opportunity for developing passenger traffic into entities that combine different means of travel.
