Good road connections are part of the trunk road network

Around 90% of Finnish exports and some 70% of imports are carried by sea. The majority of these shipments comprise of transport chains formed by sea and road transports. The main directions for traffic of the Port of Turku are Helsinki, Pori and Tampere. The main roads to all three destinations are included in the trunk road network which holds a principal position in the development of the quality, operating and safety of the road network.

The stretch of the E18 road between Turku and Helsinki was opened for traffic as a motorway in November 2008. The completion of the road shortened the driving time between the cities by about half an hour, which further increased the competitiveness of the Port of Turku in Scandinavian traffic.

The improvement of Highway 8 to Pori will also essentially upgrade the road connections of the Port of Turku. The development of the road will make traffic flow smoother and create significant savings in transport times and costs for businesses.

Driving to and from the Port will become smoother as Suikkilantie road will be made a public road between Pansiontie road and Highway 8. The four-lane road will make it easier especially for heavy vehicles to move from the Port to main roads.
