The largest area expansions in Pansio

The Pansio area offers a natural solution for the Port's constantly increasing need for field space. More asphalted field space will be built in the Pansio harbour area and the Pansio expansion area especially for the needs of car importing operations. There will be in total around 16 hectares of new field space in these areas which will be gradually taken into use by the year 2012. In addition to car transports, the field areas also serve the logistics operations of the strong maritime cluster of the Turku region, providing the companies in the field with an opportunity to store their products near the Aker shipyard.

The building of new field areas also involves the filling of the Pansio embankment pool. It will provide a field area with as high bearing capacity as six tonnes per square metre. The partial filling of the harbour basin allows for increasing the field space in the Inner Harbour, too.
