Operations give work to thousands

The effects of the operations of the Port of Turku are directly and indirectly visible in the employment rate of Southwest Finland. The Port's own organisation and the companies operating in the port area employ around 1,200 people. According to the Centre for Maritime Studies at the University of Turku, operations linked to the Port of Turku employ a total of almost 7,000 people. The growing importance of the area as a national logistics hub will provide even more job opportunities for skilled people.

The Port of Turku is part of the strong maritime cluster of Southwest Finland whose core is formed by maritime industry, seafaring and port operations. Co-operation between the actors of the cluster is diverse both in practical operations and research & development. The Port's connections with the rest of the maritime cluster are characterised by the diversity of the actors. In addition to shipbuilders and logistics companies, the needs of the local maritime technology industry are taken into account in the development of the Port of Turku.
