A European port
Turku has traditionally served as the gate to Europe. The Port of Turku is a core area in the Nordic Triangle, an important TEN (Trans European Network) project of the European Union. The E18 road that will pass via Turku will create a new, fixed connection between Scandinavia and St. Petersburg and the rest of Russia.
As a result of improved traffic connections the importance of the Turku region as the developer of marine routes of the whole Baltic Sea has increased. Turku is the only Finnish port with the resources to serve trains, lorries and trailers in both Scandinavian and continental traffic.
