The distribution cluster of the Ovako area keeps on growing

The Port of Turku has achieved a strong position as the most important Finnish distribution centre for Scandinavian traffic. Strengthening the logistic importance of the Turku region as a whole, the development has been enabled by the great effort put into logistics construction in co-operation with the customers.

In spring 2007, a distribution centre with a floor area of almost 22,000 square metres was built in the Ovako area. It has been let on long-term lease to Schenker Cargo Oy. Because of the high utilisation rate, the efficient distribution warehouse is already being expanded, and the 10,000 square metre extension will be completed in autumn 2009.

In the near future, an even larger logistics centre will be built next to Schenker Cargo by a subsidiary of the Swedish Post, Posten Logistik Finland. A parcel of seven hectares has been reserved in the Ovako area for the company which will start by building a logistics centre with a floor area of approximately 27,000 square metres on the site. The centre to be located by the railway to Uusikaupunki can later be extended by 11,000 square metres.
