Oversized transports and other instructions
Oversized transports
When oversized loads are imported/exported via the Port of Turku, the necessary arrangements must always be agreed upon separately. If the load requires special arrangements and/or road routes, contact the Finnish Road Administration for the necessary information and instructions and for a transportation permit.
When arriving at the port, it is important that you contact the port operator or port control. To ensure fluent service, contact both of them.
Customs
Customs service points are shown on the map of the port area. If you use port services late in the evening, at night or on weekends, and your load or related information requires customs checks, make sure beforehand that the customs authorities are available. Your load will not necessarily be handled until all customs issues have been settled.
Taking pictures in the port area
A permit must be obtained from the Port Authority for taking pictures or video in the confined port area.
Use of a vehicle crane or self-propelled crane in the Port of Turku
When positioning heavy cranes or other equipment on the wharf, the owner or holder of the crane or equipment must check from the port authority that the wharf withstands the weight of the crane or equipment and obtain the port authority’s approval of the location of the crane or equipment.
The crane may only be introduced to perform loading/unloading work on the wharf or in some other lifting site subject to a permit issued by the port on a case-by-case basis. A permit of this kind can be issued, e.g., if:
● required by the traffic situation in the port,
● the completion of vessel loading/unloading requires the use of a revolving crane and a port crane is not available,
● cranes needed for lifting heavy loads are all busy,
● the operation cannot be performed using two cranes, due to a lack of space, for instance,
● in the case of overtime work for which a port crane is not available,
● the range of the port cranes is insufficient,
● if there is some other justified cause,
● lifting is possible in view of the port facilities.
Permit procedures
The permit applicant must contact the harbour master, deputy harbour master or the harbour security manager of the port traffic department
in sufficiently good time before the crane utilisation need. They can issue a written permit for the use of cranes in the port, provided that there are general preconditions for its use. The permit is issued for a given lifting site and for agreed lifts. The applicant must agree the place and time of using the crane. The permit must be kept in the crane.
